1. Web Site--a collection of related pages 2. Home page--like a table of contents; usually the first page of a site 3. Links--way to get around from page to page a. Internal links-jump to other pages in the same web site b. External links-jumps to pages outside of a particular web site c. Email links-opens up email forms d. Anchors-jumps to another place on the same page 4. Hypertext--text that is "connected" to other pages that jumps you to other pages 5. Underline--way to recognize hypertext links 6. Little hand--mouse pointer turns to when it is positioned over a link 7. Loading--as the page appears on your screen 8. Browser--software that allows you to see pages on the World Wide Web 9. Netscape Navigator and Microsoft Internet Explorer--two most popular browsers 10. Address--every page on the WWW has a location 11. URL--Uniform Resource Locator 12. Post--when you finish your web site and place it on a server 13. Server--a special computer directly connected to the Internet 14. Hosting--the owner of the server where your web site it located 15. Location box--where you type the URL 16. Domain name--nature of the web site a..com-commercial b..edu-educational c..gov-government d..mil-military e..net-network f..org-organizations 17. Case--sensitive-typing the address exactly as it should be (all caps, all lower cased, etc) 18. Space--there is never a space in a web address 19. Plug-in--little pieces of software that make special things happen 20. Web authoring software--way to create web pages by allowing the software to write the code |
